Something sick is happening in Ocala and I must confess it has me more worried about anything else I can think of and especially so since the birth of my daughter some weeks back. As I ponder the future for myself and my family I worry often about a number of issues but sex crimes on children are by far my greatest concern.
Living here in Ocala has always felt safe and far away from these things but recent news and a closer look at available information makes you wonder just how safe we are from sexual predators in Ocala and Marion County. In the past week alone two old men were caught and have seemingly confessed to child rape on children as young as 5 years old. What kind of person can imagine sexual relation with a child? How sick are we as a society cannot even respect the sanctity of childhood and let them grow up before we corrupt them with our evil ways?
Country singer and songwriter Lee Brice walks a path between traditional honky tonk sounds and contemporary rock & roll; as Brice puts it, his music sounds like what would happen if Hank Williams, Jr.

Who sends their kids to Kids Zone still? What kind of parent sends their kids to a chidrens facility staffed and or managed by a crackhead? I just do not understand how a parent can let their child stay in this school when it is so apparent this woman still runs the place.
Do you have kids in Kids Zone? Care to explain why?

I realize that everything is left up to interpretation and some where in the Bible it may say something that can be construed (Or should I say twisted?) so that one would belive that burning a Quran is a good thing but it seems a far fetch for me to belive anything good will come from this. I think the Bible says more about tolerance, forgiveness and cheek turning than it does about spite and revenge. I think there is more to the Quran and the Muslim religion than the bad parts we hear about so often in our single minded media just like there is more to the Christian religion than the good stuff we all hear of so often.

I read this article and the first thought I had was that this home seems a perfect example of the type of case Eminent Domain was made for. Most often eminent domain is used to take property from a land or home owner because the county or city government deems it's use necessary for the greater good.
here in Florida we have seen this abused and many valuable properties taken by crooked officials and unscrupulous developers who are anxious to take over private lands for use that marginally is good for the community. The Parker-Menchan home is falling into disrepair and owned or controlled by the now defunct and/or bankrupt Taylor Bean organization which most likely used money from the billion dollar debacle to repair and renovate this historic property. For two years now the home has set unused and it is now overgrown and falling into disrepair once again.
Credit card skimmers may be part of theft ring | Ocala.com
Law enforcement officials said a dozen credit card skimming devices have been found in the past month at Central Florida gas stations, including four on Friday and one Sunday in Alachua County, along with devices at St. Johns and Flagler county stations, in what appears to be a statewide theft ring.
I must be honest that this credit card skimmer scam has me very concerned because we use a debit card for all purchases and we maintain a tight grip on our budget. If they were able to scan our credit card number they would have access to our primary account funds and whatever they took would be sorely missed. Even if our bank refunded us quickly it could seriously jeopardize how we pay our bills and even feed our family.
We all know that Marion County is the Horse Capital of the World but did you know we also have a problem caring for some of the many horses that live here amongst us?
The Adopt-a-Horse Club, formerly known as JNB Horse Haven Farm, in Weirsdale, Fla is having a difficult time keeping up with costs since they lost their insurance and the ability to offer horse rides in the Ocala National Forest. For being such an important organization in an area which no doubt covets the equine species i find it odd that they are not afford better conditions for these ailing animals.
I think the Adopt-a-Horse Club provides a valuable public service which not only helps the horse community but benefits all of those who get to visit the horse farm to view these majestic animals. Is there anything any of us can do to help the Adopt-a-Horse Club in Ocala/ If you can help then please contact them for details.
A local pediatrician is asking clients "Do you have a gun in your house?" and refusing to service clients who refuse to answer the question in what appears to me to be a violation of civil rights but will most likely be defended as the doctors personal choice. I can understand a doctor asking certain questions such as "Do you smoke?" or "What kind of car seat does your child use?" but the question of gun ownership has little to do with childcare.

Marion County received some good news about jobs in Ocala with a drop in the unemployment rates for the month of May for an estimated 700 nonagricultiral jobs or about .8 percent over April. Th numbers are not exactly strong but at least we are not losing more jobs. Positive job growth is so much better than job loss and although Ocala has a higher than average rate for the state most are hopeful for continued growth
Things are also looking good for an extension to the jobless benefits programs which has been a contentious issue for citizens and lawmakers on both sides. The unemplyment benefits package being proposed still faces an uphill battle but preliminary response is that it will pass.
